Détails de l'observation
Despite what I said earlier about the Godwits probably being the highlight by virtue of their return to their wonderful old form, it’s hard to dispute that an even more inconsistent Orielton treat was the best bird of the day!! With such large Godwit numbers, I naturally made a very conscious effort to tease out anything rarer… which is exactly what happened!! There, slowly and calmly pottering around as they’re wont to do, was a chunky little matte-brownish Knot very happily hoovering up a meal from the mud!!! Even at that distance, it’s rather greenish legs were particularly striking in the light… I’m always hugely fond of a good Knot, even back home up in Cairns, so having them in my true birding homeland of Orielton is a treat!!
