Détails de l'observation
Rare and early. The lack of sufficient documentation of Arctic/Kamchatka birds makes this species status a bit unclear. However, all P. borealis/examinandus specimens from the Aleutians have been genetically identified as P. examinandus including a number of birds collected on Shemya. This bird is over a week earlier than the previous earliest Aleutians fall record (prior earliest - September 16, 1977). Called three times over the ~3hrs I was trying to record it and only captured a single call. In the field, call sounded lower and longer than borealis. Closer to a very fast rattle compared to borealis single buzzy "dzink". Spectrogram shows the call at ~3.25-8.25kHz with distinct evenly spaced vertical elements which eliminates both borealis and xanthodryas.
