Détails de l'observation
The solid overcast made the lighting a big challenge. When first observed, I couldn't get a good look at the auricular patch, and the red plumage seemed grayish. In some positions, the red was brillant & not tinged orange. It was clearly a Piranga tanager, but which one? I initially leaned toward Hepatic because of the grayish tint of the red, & the bill appearing very dark. I even entertained the possibility of Scarlet when the angle made the red so brillant. However an examination of the photos provided evidence that it was a Summer -- which would be the expected species at this location. The last photo (...0577) seems to show a light-colored lower mandible, as does ...0570. 0570 also shows no all black wings.
