Détails de l'observation
Continuing bird found by Chris George. Very large swan. Body white, head and neck a light rusty-brown color. Bill completely black. Thanks to the gentleman who was there and pulled his scope back out, got a better look at the head (when the bird stopped foraging) - the black extended to the eye. The bird spent quite some time foraging. Then took off - he/she needed a couple circles to get enough height to clear the trees and disappeared. Several minutes later, he/she returned landing closer to the road. He/she called several times then settled in to preening. Legs are black; while he/she was preening got different looks at the bill - could see how broad and large the bill is, and it seems rather flat as it extends from the forehead. Disappointed - thought I had recorded the calls after the landing, but the recording either wasn't on or I hit the delete button (GRRR). Have one small snippet from a second try when I thought he/she was kicking off again but only captured one call. Overall - quite a treat!
