Détails de l'observation
Nesting here again this year. At least 21 adults, all in breeding plumage, plus at least two small chicks. About half of these birds, including both chicks, were in Crittenden Marsh, mostly along the northwest edge. The other half were in the unnamed triangular pond northeast of Crittenden Marsh, which is now continuous with Crittenden Marsh, as the levee between the two seems to have been breached. I saw a pair hanging around a partially completed nest in this pond, and they had made more progress on it when I passed by again a couple hours later. The sequence below shows one of these birds hopping up onto this nest platform. Many pairs easily seen from the trail at pretty close range. When I passed by here later, photographers were gathering right by the water's edge, getting as close to the grebes as possible, though not really trespassing into the marsh itself that I could see.
