Détails de l'observation
Much watched 2CY male. Initially perched on the Poplars with occasional forays, as the light started to go Hobbies appeared and the bird was far more active. Light direction not helpful so photos were essentially silhouettes (with occasional views / hints of the plumage colouration) plus a few shots against the fading light with a Hobby allowing structural features to be compared. In flight a more compact looking falcon to the Hobby - the Red Foot looked slightly smaller (shorter wing span and more broader-based wings with a relatively longer tail). Flight was generally less ‘dashing’ / direct whilst no hovering was observed the bird was catching insects on the wing. Mark T also pointed out the subtle tail shape difference to a Hobby - where the tail feathers ‘meet’ the wing.
