Détails de l'observation
I am keeping this brief after making an extensive report on a BITH in VB (checklist here). Detected near disc golf basket #15, in the bramble behind the white "Next Tee" sign (37.348656,-75.901121). Initially heard the beer/veer call notes, which instantly brought me to a refined focus. It produced a couple of low-volume, complete songs mixed with many partial song elements. I was able to achieve some glances and was quickly pleased to find a rusty Catharus thrust pop out of the ivy. The plumage pattern stayed true to the rusty tones in the overcast weather/mist while dashing through better lighting. After several glimpses, I was able to mentally stitch together the classic yellow lower mandible and gray flanks, as well as facial markings of a GCBT type. I found the vocals of this individual to be more challenging to detect due to the harsh songs and calls of its neighbors. Between all the fuss I was able to pick up the more upslur notes of the final element of its song that often suggest BITH. What struck me today that I didn’t notice going over these songs was that the song suggests a downward melody until the finale where it picks back up with that upslur. It isn't showcased well in my recordings, but I believe this element can be heard in the recording with the WHIM flight calls.
