Détails de l'observation
I’d never have believed this if I hadn’t got the photo. On my drive in to the beach, at the north end of the beach I caught an Osprey drifting north. After sunset and near full dark I began this list, driving back to Highway to search for owls. I noticed a white dot holding position in the strong (20-40km) onshore wind and thought that was very late/dark for the Osprey!. I’d prepped the camera and took a shot but flash wasn’t powerful enough. Second shot captured it - Barn Owl. There is a steep stretch of scrub perhaps only 10m wide, then it’s sand and ocean and the owl was hunting this the way you’d expect an Osprey or Sea-Eagle (in Australia) to cruise the shore. I certainly didn’t expect to get one this early on the drive, this close to the beach, and indeed didn’t like my chances at all anywhere with this wind!
