Détails de l'observation
Female type found foraging in the pannes near where the Wilson’s Phalarope has been frequenting. First caught my eye due to the orangish legs, short bill, pale head, and brown scaly back and scapulars, markedly different than the nearby Yellowlegs. About the same size as a Greater Yellowlegs but with a much paler brown back and mantle, and a clean white breast and belly. It foraged mainly on the mudflats and occasionally pecked at some of the marsh grass, but rarely waded in very deep. Loosely associated with nearby GRYE and the WIPH once it flew in. For the majority of the time it stayed fairly close, foraging back and forth near the blind in the marsh. Flushed a few times due to a passing Bald Eagle, and eventually moved to the pans closer to the Pelreco Building. It was last seen by me and a few others flying over the road with a small flock of GRYEs, heading toward Pine Point. An absolutely incredible find, and a great way to kick off spring shorebird migration. Happy Birthday to Tom Foley and thank you so much to Doug Hitchcock, and Derek Lovitch for helping to confirm it. Will post photos later.
