Détails de l'observation
Putative Black-tailed Godwit. Silent flyby. We were standing on the Kasilof beach looking due west overlooking the mudflats and into a heavy gray overcast and totally obscured sun. We first presumed this was another flyby HUGO until we noted the lack of black under-wing coverts. At that point we frantically began photographing the bird. It had a lighter russet colored neck and uppermost breast, being mostly whitish below, as evidenced in the first photograph. The bill was very straight. We did not acquire any definitive dorsal views of the wings but we had a fleeting view of a black and white tail-band and rump like a HUGO, which of course eliminated the possibility of a MAGO or BTGO. The bird was unfortunately backlit which causes shadowing on portions or all of the underwing depending on the photo.
