Extended bout of singing after coaxing into view with two bouts of song playback and 1-2 bouts of chip playback. The bird, however, had been singing organically when we arrived.
Détails de l'observation
A spell-binding encounter with an extraordinarily obliging male. My photos of the bird span at least 8 minutes (7:24-7:32 a.m.) !! I did not expect to encounter this species here, as I thought it was primarily a bottomland breeder at Shelby Forest (along River Road to the N and nearby Island Forty Road to the S). The bird appeared tied to a patch of what I believe is giant cane (Arundinaria tecta), which seemed like suitable breeding habitat to me. It was just S of the parking area at the Pioneer Springs trailhead.
