Détails de l'observation
When initially seen it was at the other side of the lake. At first glance I thought it was a Redhead because the sun was hitting the head and it looked red. It was actively diving and was also viewed when the sun ducked behind the clouds, at which point the head appeared much darker and looked more like a Ring-necked Duck. The dark back gave me pause to the extent that I thought the red came from a light aberration and dismissed it as purely a Ring-necked Duck. Upon reviewing my photos two days later it was clear to me that the head was in fact red when I cropped in the photos and could see it much better. Sorry for the delay in the report, this is the first time we have encountered this hybrid.
