Red Crossbills at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, CA
Détails de l'observation
Continuing birds. Heard "jip-jip" calls at first, although I could not seem to find the flock that was flying around the campus. Later, I found several crossbills feeding the top of Canary Island Pines in the row of trees between the gymnasium parking lot and Building L. I made a few recordings of these birds because it sounded as though there might be two types involved: a common "jip" or "jeep" call and another bird (maybe two) that sounded more like a "took" being lower in pitch and not as thin and ringing. I then saw more birds in the row of Canary Island Pines at the corner of Pine Street and South Bradley Road in the NE corner of the campus. This last flock numbered eight or nine birds.
