Détails de l'observation
Large dark eagle perched in tree 100 feet from road. Juvenile. Initially thought Bald because of the habitat and drove on by, but turned around on a hunch. Observed bird for a few minutes from inside car parked on 36th Ave. Noticeable hint of golden glint on nape and smaller billed than Bald, giving it a more "hawkish" appearance. As I fumbled for my camera, my movement alerted the eagle. I managed to get some photos showing diagnostic white wing patch and broad white band on tail. Flew west over School Section Lake, and I was unable to relocate after an hour of searching nearby areas. The habitat southwest of School Section Lake along 38th St. yielded many other raptors (see checklist) and the habitat is more appropriate.
