Détails de l'observation
I’ve never seen this many in Montpelier. Went outside to double check and take photos, counted individually several times. Regarding subspecies: Haemorhous mexicanus [mexicanus Group] encompasses all eleven extant subspecies of House Finch. The other grouping, Haemorhous mexicanus mcgregori, is only used for that now extinct subspecies. All Northeastern House Finches are part of an introduced Haemorhous mexicanus frontalis population, which have smaller bills and more extensive red on the underparts in mature males. Here, the bird is identified to the subspecies by range and by dint of being alive.
