(Rare filter 30): Exact count. Well encountered. Big flight of siskins (and blackbirds) all flying from w. to e. along Ontario shore. Carefully counted. Note: We study/survey finches specifically, Caleb involved with Finch Research Network, crossbills and EVGR. Made some recordings and phone photos. — — Flocks of 50, 50, and 20 fly in to bare tree parking lot, perch together and nibbling at. 120. Recorded calls here. Phone photos of one part of flock in sky. 8:27a well over 100 fly off to east, prob entire flock of 120. — Then 15-20 others come in from w. to e. 8:29am. — 8:34a another flock of 35 from w. to e. — 8:37a another flock of 50 from w. to e. — more heard. — 8:49a another flock of 30-40 from w. to e. — 8:50a 5. — 10. — 20. — 30. — eating white cedar cones, photoed Thuja hedge in iNat. — another 50 PISI 8:48am. — 15 w 3 AMGO. — 9:02am 40 then 60. — 9:03am 50 then 35 w 1 HOFI. — 50 then 70-85. — 30. — 20. — 12 . — 20. — — many landing in the white cedar hedge and eating there. The ebird high count of PISI for state of New York is 20,275 on Oct 21, 2012 in Suffolk co., only a few days after today’s date.
