Détails de l'observation
Small Pterodroma with fast and somewhat erratic flight; hard to stay on. First found at a distance but then had the bird fly in for a close view, circle the boat twice, and then head off, never to be seen again. Small and cold grayish above with darker wings than mantle and a very low contrast “M” pattern across upperparts, resembling Cook’s wing pattern but darker. Underparts were clean white with an indistinct grayish semi-collar that contrasted slightly with the whitish face. Dark around the eye was very obvious against the white face and pale grayish crown. Underwings were white with obvious black flight feathers creating a dark trailing edge to entire wing and a bold black carpal patch that tapered back into the middle wing from the wrist, giving a starkly black and white underwing flash.
