Détails de l'observation
A frustrating report-- I was rattling off photos of the Cook's flock when I noted through the camera a larger, dark bird, flying like a petrel, not a SOSH. It was so far away and, when I registered what I was looking at, it had banked and disappeared-- I did not see it again, as both the flock and my ship were moving in opposite directions, at a great distance. In review of photos the bird seems pale faced, though solidly brown, without the paler mantle I'd expect on a Murphy's Petrel (which I believe would be the most likely dark Pterodroma out here). Maybe a dark morph Kermadec? These photos are truly awful, but I'm putting them out here anyway-- whatever this was, it was likely a first for Baja based on what checklists I can see.
