Détails de l'observation
Edit, after looking at my American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection: It's a domestic Mallard, a barnyard mix derived from the Rouen breed, not large enough to be purebred, which is why it threw me off. Same bird observed yesterday at the same time and place; the more I look at it the more it’s looking like a melanistic female Mallard. Today I got a view of its backside and legs as it dabbled among the cattails along the southern edge of the reservoir. Undertail area very dark; tail feathers only slightly lighter. Legs orange. Bill appears to be dirty orange today, with the cloudy and late-day lighting having an effect on being able to nail down the true color. Apologies for the shaky video.
