Détails de l'observation
First seen in a large group of adult WEGU. The mantle was about the same color as occidentals, perhaps a shade or two darker, but the bird stood out pretty quickly due to its smaller size and low, long profile. The eyes were a bright yellow-white and the legs rich orange. The bill was surprisingly robust with a pronounced gonydeal angle, but still less hefty than the WEGU and GWGU around. I was able to slowly approach the bird for decent photos, until it flushed and re-settled in the flock. Subsequent research suggests this bird, on both structure and mantle color is within the range of graellsii, our expected LBBG in North America. The obviously big bill suggests the individual is a male. Thus far, this bird appears to have been a "one-day wonder."
