Détails de l'observation
apparent basic ad. m, observed at great distance on water and in flight, loosely assoc. w/ 3-4 COGO w/in larger aggregation of COME, actively diving and moving in large loop around mid-lake. An adult male goldeneye with predominantly black upperparts with what appeared like a neat row of white spots on the scapulars and black spur on its sides seemingly extending down to the surface of the water. The bird had a steep forehead and oval-shaped head with flared hindcrown. There was an obvious white crescent on the face. The bill appeared short and stubby. In flight it showed two restricted patches of white on the wings; one on the inner secondaries and the other on the outer greater upperwing coverts. The eye color was impossible to discern given the distance and the head sheen appeared blackish; ***MEGA - accidental winter visitor, about 11th state record p.a., 1st documented record for Panhandle and Hutchinson Co.
