Détails de l'observation
Exact count of 9 individuals. They were interspersed in a large mixed flock on the point, amidst Pelicans, Ring-bills, and Herring gulls. There may have been additional juvenile birds, but my skill is not adequate enough in juvenile gull ID to have confidently included any, thus this count is only adult-plumage birds. ID'd Lesser Black-backed gulls were larger than Ring-bills, slightly smaller than Herring gulls, with yellow legs and much darker wings than the aforementioned two species, and yellow bills with a red spot on the lower bill like the Herring gulls. Pics of individuals attached, all birds included in the count matched the descriptions and photos provided. I did not have a full camera with me, just spotting scope/smartphone, and it was not feasible to photograph the entire flock and be able to adequately pick out 9 individuals in a full-flock photograph. However, I panned the flock through binoculars numerous times to count the Lesser Black-backs, and always was able to consistently ID at least 9 spread through the flock. Attached are photos of mostly individuals at a couple different places in the flock, the most I could get in one frame is three.
