Détails de l'observation
After spending a week trying to identify the Chaetura swift species hawking over the forest as viewed from the ‘Campo do Mariano’ this evening the birds finally came close enough to allow for photos, even doing so on multiple occasions. The first notable occasion was when three flew north together at close range but very quickly. Some photos were taken on this occasion, and on the next occurrence when one flew overhead from behind, heading east into the forest. On both occasions the photos clearly showed the presence of a pale white/pale grey tail band followed by a black tail. This distinctive stripe seems to rule out Chaetura sickii which would show a greyish rump extending into the tail, rather than a distinctive contrasting band. The only downside was that the birds were not heard to call in strong winds.
