NOTES: Background: ELAENIA CHIRIQUENSIS (DAWN SONG); Background: ELAENIA FLAVOGASTER (DAWN SONG); Cover density: NONE; FILTERED BELOW 500HZ; ABOVE 2200HZ. A: TRILLS--APPARENTLY COURTSHIP SINGING; MAY ALSO BE TERRITORIAL. B: WHINNIES--USED IN COURTSHIP FLIGHT CHASES; PERHAPS ALSO IN TERRITORIAL CHASES; ALSO IS A HIGH LEVEL ALARM. USED ONLY IN FLIGHT. C: CLUCKS 1 FEMALE(S)--LOW LEVEL ALARM. THE DRY RATTLE OF C. CAYENNENSIS (SEE NOTES OF TAPE) IS NOT DISTINGUISHABLE; HOWEVER THERE ARE SOME WHISTLES MADE BY THIS BIRD. 04:30-5:10 HRS. [This represents primarily the "toad-like" trilling typical of this species, this regularly interspersed with slower series of stuttering notes (0:25-0:265, 0:345-0:355, 0:46-0:475, 0:56-0:57, 1:375-1:385, 1:59-2:00, 2:395-2:405, 3:32-3:335, 3:405-3:415, 3:55-3:56, 4:035-4:045, 4:13-4:14, 4:335-4:345, 4:41-4:425, 5:04-5:05). These "stuttering trills" are given on their own at 5:275-5:33. Also included are series of "whinnies" and some soft "whicks" emitted in flight, though unclear whether a vocal sound or one produced by the wings (0:58-1:26, 2:07-2:28, 2:59-3:09, 5:33-5:38, 5:57-6:06). There are "cryptic" stop-starts at 3:115, 3:15, and 5:52, possibly elsewhere. Quality changed from 2-1 to 2-3 (would be quality 2 but it appears that the filtering cut into the bird's trilled calls thus making them sound a little odd) - CAM - 9 November 2005]. Other Behaviors: Court, Emit Alarm.
