Détails de l'observation
continuing? at the spot at the northeast end of the main pond where Jay McGowan had one on 29 September (42.5037067, -76.4332785; perhaps henceforth to be known as Connecticut Corner), so perhaps the same bird; but today more heard than seen. began calling almost immediately in response to mobbing playback and playback of CONW calls - it was a pretty electrifying moment when I realized I was getting a vocal response, especially such a strong one - and continued calling for several minutes at close range. frustratingly elusive to see, however. it may have been on the ground, where I detected some motion, but I never got a good look at whatever was down there. eventually it stopped calling, and I then saw a green-backed bird fly east across a gap and disappear into another thicket. perhaps that was the CONW, perhaps that was the OCWA that also was present (although it didn't look that bright); whatever this bird was, I didn't relocate it, and did not hear CONW again. I spent most of my time trying to get a look at this bird, but eventually decided that if nothing else I should try for a phone recording; unfortunately by that time the bird was starting to call less often, and I think I captured only two calls.
