Three successive (long) cuts (as we moved closer) of a spontaneously singing Western Screech-Owl--the first we’ve ever had at Cypress Campground, 1830m. Note variation at ca. 3’15” in. We never saw the bird, so don’t know exactly how high it was; but it was in pine-oak woodland near the creek at the old Cypress Campground; on a starry night with no moon. Mexican Whip-poor-will and (eventually) Whiskered Screech-Owl sing in the distance. It may be the most persistent W. Screech-Owl I’ve ever heard! Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Détails de l'observation
This was just down the road from where we camped, opposite the old Cypress Campground (closed now). It was the first Western Screech-Owl we've had this high in Rucker Canyon (1830m)--and perhaps the most persistent I've ever heard. Long recording attached.
