Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides) Hadley Point,MDI January 3 2017 MJGood
Détails de l'observation
Stacy and son Ian were on the beach and had an opportunity to see this bird in the scope. I have come to the conclusion that this bird is an Iceland Gull, which I struggled with all day. After several hours of work, I have asked Amar Ayyash to comment on this bird to see if he concurs. (from Amar Ayyash: Another subjective bird. It would likely be called a dark Kumlien's in Iceland right now, and I think I can say with confidence that it would not be accepted as a Kumlien's in California. For me, it's an Iceland Gull, somewhere between thayeri and kumlieni.) Head streaked, white around the all black bill. Dark Iceland's with dark-ish primaries. Trailing edge of the tail white tipped dark ratricies. Approaching Iceland Gull coloration but slight more kumlieni. In light plumage and significantly lighter than the many Herring Gull first year sitting near the beach. Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides) Hadley Point,MDI January 3 2017 MJGood about 3PM.
