Détails de l'observation
3rd year bird on beach with about a dozen RBGU and HERG. Sadly, I didn't realize it was a potential SBGU until I got home. I thought it was an odd LBBG or a hybrid. Stupid me. :-( For some reason, I never even looked at the leg color. The most compelling field mark is the combination of back color and the deep, dark pink legs. I guess shape is OK. Similar to HERG, somewhat short-legged. Weather was overcast with some drizzle and moderate SE wins. Strong SE and heavier rains had fallen the night before. NOTE: Alvaro Jaramillo weighed in and stated: "This is a Slaty-backed Gull as far as I'm concerned. Not only the structure, bill, overall tones, streaking pattern, large "crescents" on upperparts. But [on one of the photos] the primaries are shifted a bit and a big white patch can be seen on the base of P8, that is a big white tongue tip - one of the pearls".
