Détails de l'observation
Continuing Tufted Duck rarity. I originally reported as Aythya sp. but feel confident enough that this bird has been identified as a pure Tufted Duck rather than a hybrid. New, much clearer photos clearly show the back is black; earlier pictures show a grayer back but it is a trick of the light due to the shine on the feathers, better photos in perfect lighting have shown the back is black. The tuft is shorter than an average Tufted Duck, but clearer photos of it have shown it is much longer than I previously believed, well within the range of a typical Tufted Duck, albeit shorter than the average, and longer than a typical hybrid. Pure white flanks. My pictures are terrible but others have gotten better.
