Harris's Hawk, Lake Sherwood, CA - 18 Jan 2022

Perched on an island at the lake for hours this morning. No leg bands or jesses. Buteo-like hawk that was dark brown with extensive rufous on the upperwing coverts, long yellowish legs, white undertail coverts and tail tip, and a yellowish face. While the provenance of this hawk will debated, its presence is coincident with a movement of the species into San Diego and Riverside Counties this fall.
