Détails de l'observation
I am getting frustrated with the Rufous/Allen situation in the garden. Today I definitely note two DIFFERENT orange hummingbirds. Looking over today's photos as well as photos from all previous sightings, it is apparent that both birds are around. Additionally, I see evidence on each of them to claim an Allen's ID. I have photos of each with the outer retrices being very narrow. Bird B 15 Dec photo, Bird A 20 Dec photo. Recordings today have BirdNET ID's of both Allen's and Rufous (above). So, either I have one Allen's and one Rufous, or two Allen's, but I most certainly have two birds! Bird A has iridescent gorget feathers on the sides of its throat and a small number of darker feathers on the central throat. Bird B is my original Allen's (so shoot me). It has no iridescent side feathers and a fairly large patch on its central throat. Note Bird B molt P1-8, P9-10 still to go.
