Détails de l'observation
Kurt Radamaker, and I arrived this afternoon, without prior knowledge of this bird's presence, save for the fact that a Northern Jacana had been seen for several months at this very location the previous fall/spring, 2007-08. We were astonished to re-discover this individual —presumably the same bird as the previous year— foraging in fairly close proximity along the ponds' edge. Somewhat rail like in size, and structure, although rather unmistakable plumage, and features. Overall, very dark plumage, blackish on the head, neck, breast, and upper belly; and dark auburn mantle, wings, rump, tail, lower belly, and vent. A bright yellow, somewhat proportionately heavy bill, with a small pale saddle at the base of the upper mandible was striking, along with a bright yellow shield on the forehead. The legs were long, with exceptionally long feet/toes —appeared dainty in proportion with the body—, and were a dull gray.
