Détails de l'observation
*MEGA! First found out from playground area but quickly moved east and farther out, continuing as the day progressed such that it became difficult to view anywhere, even the far east end of the beach. Medium-sized loon in full alternate plumage, including silvery gray head/nape/rear-neck, vertical white striping on side of neck, black throat, white checkered back, and distinctive white flanks above water line. White flanks were centered toward rear of bird over base of leg and extended forward to mid-point of body. This white was symmetrical on both sides of bird, present during all behaviors, and notably visible as "tail lights" when the bird was swimming directly away. Bird appeared heavier with slightly more robust head and bill than might be expected in PALO. First Wisconsin state record and one of few North American records away from Pacific coast.
