Détails de l'observation
*Very rare. First eBird record of this species for Region 7 (Essex, Franklin, Hamilton and Clinton Co.). Large, lanky and long-legged willet immediately indicative of western-type. Overall pale grayish brown and less strongly marked than eastern. A more plain looking willet. Studied at fairly close range for nearly 40 minutes before the bird took flight high and south along the lake. An added bonus was hearing the bird sing as it took flight. A recognizably lower tone than singing Eastern Willet. I have extensive experience with both willets given my history of birding along the Atlantic Coast, which was a helpful prerequisite in allowing me to recognize this bird as a Western, both visually and audibly.
