Détails de l'observation
immature on the outer beach about 1/3 mile down from bridge crossing; we found this immature Masked Booby sitting on the beach alone except for several thousand beach-goers with their large trucks. Sulid. All white below. Dark head slightly mottled with white. Dark mantle and wings. Short but pointy tail. Long heavy bill with continuous slope to forehead. Bill was a dull green/yellow. White rump. Tail black. Short dark legs with webbed feet. We approached it after taking photos as we thought it might be injured. The bird took flight and landed in the water next to a large, floating Homo sapien. In flight, it had long pointed wings and would glide close to the water. When it would land, it would come in at a low angle to the water. It took flight a couple of times and eventually worked its way down (west) the coast towards San Luis Pass, but we did not pursue it.
