This recording is included here as reference. It is in the same location but in the previous year - most likely of the same individual now designated as Yellow x Prairie Warbler (hybrid)

Détails de l'observation

I originally posted this as PRAW based on song - though the pics (as pointed out by Rick B) are of a Yellow Warbler. This was, however, the actual bird that was singing the PRAW song. Apparently within the bird world, the anomaly of one species learning the song of another occurs more often than I've personally observed - it was suggested that such could be the case with this bird. I subsequently changed the tax list to "yellow warbler" with the following disclaimer: "So, this bird is now actually listed above among the Yellow Warblers but with the distinction of being one of the most interesting Yellow Warblers around! I am leaving open the idea that it may be a Prairie/yellow hybrid, however. There did appear to be markings on the shoulder that were dark (did not appear to be red) and which could be interpreted as faint minimal plumage characteristics suggestive of the parallel lines that begin there and run along the flanks of the Prairie. I'm not familiar with any documented examples of Yellow/Prarie hybrids and will leave that discussion up to those more knowledgable than myself. Could an offspring of a Prarie and Yellow Warbler pair carry predominant Yellow plumage characteristics but inherit or be imprinted predominantly by the Prairie Warbler song?" After I and others documented this individual I was informed that ebird later added the hybrid designation that it is now listed under. What a blessing to finally have a designation that represents the intrinsic characteristics most accurately. Hats off to the reviewers!
