Détails de l'observation
2nd Ketchikan record - vacant lot near the grassy knoll. Observed by Ben Limle, Steve Heinl, Andy Piston, and Jim Lewis. Identified as a Spizella by very small size (smaller than juncos), pale overall coloration, and small bill. Separated from Chipping Sparrow by pale lores and lack of strong dark eyeline. Separated from Clay-colored Sparrow by narrow, complete white eye ring and somewhat less contrasting face pattern - supercilium grayer and not clear buffy as in Clay-colored and auriculars and borders of auriculars duller and not as contrasting. Gray nape also not as bright and contrasting as in Clay-colored Sparrow and heavily streaked on hind neck and some hint of fine streaking in the gray nape. Comments from others, particularly Cameron Eckert (Yukon), who has extensive experience with taverneri Brewer's Sparrow, also supported Brewer's Sparrow identification.
