Détails de l'observation
**Exceptionally rare in Brooklyn and Queens, despite being seen irregularly in Eastern Long Island, northern New Jersey (where some are resident), and on passage elsewhere in the semi-local region. First eBird record for the species in Queens, and first physically documented record that I know of from Brooklyn or Queens. Very high, westbound migrant, first picked up when it was already west of Breezy Point and heading out over New York Bay. Scope views (after some initial panicked failure to acquire the target) confirmed binocular guess, and I watched it in the scope for several minutes as it headed west, then began circling over the bay, looking for a short period like it might head back north, but eventually it turned hard and headed south, apparently towards Sandy Hook. Photos and digiscoped video.
