Détails de l'observation
Observed 1 adult or very near adult and 2 juveniles. Adult bird was easily compared with adult Herring Gulls and a variety of Ring-billed Gulls as they mixed closely together on the area currently being filled with refuse. The bird showed as smaller than the Herring Gulls and larger than the Ring-billed Gulls. Features included the slate grey upper parts, large yellow bill with red gonydeal spot (red spot similar to Herring Gull and differentiating from Ring-billed Gull). The overall appearance as per attached photos was very similar to figure 27.0 on pg. 147 of Howell & Dunn's Gulls of the Americas. The immature LBBGs showed a similar size to the adults, but with an overall streaked brown/grey appearance, smudged eyes, and black bill. Another birder pointed out the darker bases on the greater coverts. The juveniles showed as similar to figure 27.6 on pg. 188 of Howell & Dunn's Gulls of the Americas.
