Détails de l'observation
An amazing illustration of the difference iridescence makes on their throat feathers from different angles. Superior photography equipment was courtesy of David Udey. Have just learned that the tiny white tips on his tail feathers are characteristic of juvenile males, and that he will molt these eventually and the new feathers that come in will not have these white spots. Differences between this species and the Ruby-throated hummingbirds, which look extremely similar, can be seen in the white line that runs between his eyes and the beginning of his throat feathers, or the "gorget." Ruby-throats have black plumage in this place instead of the white.
