Détails de l'observation
Seen flying past at 12:03 pm and originally identified as a Pomarine Jaeger on review of footage. Dark brown, large sized jaeger/skua with white wing flashes and pale belly. Flight appeared more jaeger-like than skua-like but may be a result of the bird flying directly into wind. Additionally, the apparent lightness of the belly (which did not appear as prominent in the field) is best explained as a combination of wear and lighting. Further analysis has generally ruled out jaeger on the basis of the pale back, stocky build and large wing flashes on both upper and underwing. South Polar was considered, but contrast of dark wings with pale back and lack of pale collar probably fits Brown, the more expected species, better.
