Détails de l'observation
Self found county lifer! EJZ first called this unusual gull to attention from the fishing pier as it stood way out on the spit with a couple of RBGU. Immediately saw it was a first summer LAGU in the scope and rushed down the overgrown path at the bend in the road to access the lake shore. Was able to get great views from here as the bird hung out on the spit, made one short flight, and preened a bit. Smaller than the RBGU, gray overall, with a long all black bill - see photos attached. First chaseable LAGU in the county since 2010 as a bird at the park last fall was not reported until after dark. Used to be weirdly frequent here back in the 1980s but reports have really dropped off since then. No recent weather or long-term wind events in recent days to push this bird here. Recent LAGU reports in Lycoming and Crawford counties show some precedent of late for this species inland.
