Détails de l'observation
First observation at 0556. 6 counted on property. 4 individual(s) singing. Spectacular day for tanagers here; completely unprecedented high count for the site. Most were males. Generally seen singly or in small groups of 2-3, foraging in riparian shrubs, especially willows and chokecherries. Males sang occasionally, and once in a while we heard 'prrrdt' calls. Around 1200 on the return, we saw a WETA fly into a chokecherry clump ca 100 meters south of the stream and 50 meters east of the property fence. Over the next 5 minutes or so, more flew in to the same chokecherry from the east or northeast, one or several at a time; we counted a total of 20 WETA in this single chokecherry clump! At this point they were all nonvocal; only ca 2-3 were visible at any one time in the chokecherry, though we kept eyes on it constantly and were able to get the minimum count of 20 by tracking birds flying in. Of the birds in the chokecherry, 17 were males, 2 were females, and 1 was unknown sex. Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 12 on property. 3 beyond property. 1 flyover(s).
