Détails de l'observation
Apparent third-cycle bird, photos. Seen only in flight as it circled above the reservoir for several minutes. I believe it was flying north when we lost it. Basically same size as RBGU that was flying near it. Most obvious field mark was a very dark gray mantle that was almost the same shade as the wingtips. Nearly pure white head, breast, and belly; limited dark splotching in tail, an apparent mark of subadult plumage. Thicker bill and more sloped forehead than RBGU. Other dark-mantled gull species considered, but size and shape fit best with Lesser Black-backed, along with probability of course.
