This unseen bird was thought at the time to be initially 20 meters away and 5-10 meters above the ground (though later experience suggested it may have been higher up and farther away than we thought). It was in a grove of denser trees amid what was generally relatively scrubby terra firme forest located out the old logging road where we had been working 6.9 km. beyond the bridge over the Río Grande. [08° 06’ 22.9” N, 61° 38’ 12.7” W, 283 m]. This was a small grove of tall trees with an open understory along a dry streambed. I suspect in it and to the bird was probably 50-75 meters away from us and 15-20 meters above the ground when I made these recordings. This bird was silent when we arrived, but in response to playback of a recording from the Manaus master project, the bird approached and called repeatedly. It sang only on occasion and after we had done quite a bit of playback. We tried for quite some time to see this bird, in response to extend to playback it from all around, but it never came to the edge of the forest and we were unable to see it on this particular evening. We did manage to see this bird in this same spot the following evening after we cut a trail into the forest. A full moon was about 30-35° up in the eastern sky. Perfectly clear, calm, low 80s. ML: 75 Hz high-pass scientific filter applied in Adobe Audition CC 2015 to all segments. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
