This recording has multiple parts, the first part representing natural song, the second part song after limited playback, and the remaining parts after more extensive playback, in response which the bird approached rapidly and closely. At times perching right out of the open at the edge of thick growth right along the road (where we saw it well, although it rarely remained the open for very long). The song given in response to playback was essentially the same as it was before playback, but with the interval between songs was much reduced. This bird did not chatter much in response to playback. The bird was initially unseen but probably about 15-18 meters away and low in the undergrowth near the end of the short spur road, and possibly on the backside of a small berm that was created when they made the road. The bird typically remained 1/2 to 1 meter up and in dense growth, though it went as high as 2-2 1/2 meters and sometimes came out into the open. In the third part of this recording the bird was about 10 meters away, and at the end, it was about 5 meters away and 1 meter above the ground in the dense growth right along the edge of the road amid mostly dead vegetation that appeared to have been pushed here by a bulldozer when the road was created. We had been in the same general area all morning and it was not until just before I got onto the bird that it began singing. there also seemed to be only a single bird. partly cloudy, intermittent trace breeze, 76° F. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
