Détails de l'observation
Distant and extremely backlit, but appeared to be a male Gadwall swimming in an open, non-Spatterdock-y area in the southeast end of the impoundment. Opted to not pull the trigger on this ID because of the poor lighting conditions and a lack of solid documentation (very late date for this species). Appeared to be gray/dark-bodied with browner head (only visible from certain angles) with dark butt, dark bill. A bit of white, presumably secondaries, was visible poking out on one side. No white on face or rear. Build seemed appropriate for Gadwall as well. By the time we got to a spot where the lighting wasn't so terrible, the duck was nowhere to be found. Digiscoped pics from the first location didn't help much, despite attempts to clean them up in Photoshop. Oh well.
