Détails de l'observation
1 light morph juvenile // The female Northern Harrier was harassing the young Ferruginous over Pond-3 (NE corner of site). // From below, the Ferruginous looked almost all white. Photos show the finer markings of a juvenile light morph. Our bird shows the required dark wrist commas, and smudgy wing tips (no barring on outer primaries). The base of the tail is whitish, while the rest of the tail is a light grayish brown with some indistinct banding. White uppertail coverts have large black spots. Back and upperwings are dark brown with light primaries. Though the pictures are poor of the head, it is possible to see the dark eye line. In comparison to the underside of a particularly pale Red-tailed Hawk, this juvenile Ferruginous lacks any inkling of dark patagial mark or belly band.
