An adult Wood Sandpiper feeding on invertebrates in an algal mat on the Sabie River. The Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) breeds in the Palaearctic and migrates south to winter in Sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere. These birds are often confiding in Kruger National Park, and allow close approach by vehicles. This adult Wood Sandpiper was feeding on small invertebrates living in an algal mat on the rocks at the Sabie River low-level Crossing near Skukuza in Kruger National Park. Elevation: 287 m.
