White-breasted Woodswallows perching together and preening. The White-breasted Woodswallow (Artamus leucorynchus) is a nomadic species, that breeds from the Andaman Islands east to Indonesia and in northern Australia. These elegant birds are not related to true swallows, and are in the family Artamidae that includes Butcherbirds, Currawongs and Australian Magpies. White-breasted Woodswallows are famous for cuddling close together at roosts, with individual birds launching off to catch insects in flight. These White-breasted Woodswallows were perching together in mangroves at the Carnarvon Small Boat Harbour in Western Australia. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: September 11, 2018.
